Enhancing Magnetic Sensor Simulation Tool with Soliton

Read on to know more about how Soliton, with its tech-stack expertise, helped upgrade an existing desktop simulation tool for magnetic sensors into a more user-friendly, robust, dynamic, and feature-rich application with various features and functionalities.

The strategic placement of magnetic sensors, tailored to the movement of magnets within end systems, is crucial for optimal performance in real-time applications such as automotive systems, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.

Ensuring sensors are positioned with precision concerning magnet movement and other parameters significantly enhances their ability to capture results as expected. To evaluate the efficiency of sensors initially, the sensors would be placed in a magnetic field to gauge their performance. However, a better approach using a simulation tool became a viable option to ensure the proper placement of the sensor and deduce the results with respect to the magnetic field, eliminating the need for a physical device.

In response to the evolving needs, one of our esteemed customers, a prominent player in the semiconductor industry, sought to develop a cutting-edge development tool by upgrading its existing tool.

The Customer's Current Simulation Tool

The customer had their very own version of the simulation tool, mimicking the position of sensors and capturing how they behave to the magnetic flux generated by the magnet at each point during the movement.

However, this tool was built as a downloadable desktop application limiting its capabilities. This version of the tool required customers to download the software, which hindered the feasibility of the customers who did not have access to their PCs.

Additionally, with their current version of the tool, simulations took a longer time as they were not optimized for performance. It lacked certain features that did not enable the tool to sweep across values or perform combined simulations collectively.

Soliton in the Picture

The customer wanted to make their legacy application more scalable, incorporating additional features and creating a user-friendly, robust, and dynamic application to help precisely analyze and fine-tune the placement of these magnetic sensors.

Owing to our expertise, domain knowledge, and the diverse skill set of our engineers, the customer saw us as an ideal choice of partners to upgrade the existing tool from a pool of companies.

NEW UPGRADES AND FEATURES ADDED TO THE EXISTING TOOL

With Soliton’s help, the desktop application was transitioned to a robust web application, amplifying its functionality, streamlining the design process, and enhancing its overall experience.

The team built the new application on a completely different tech stack while preserving the customer’s underlying framework. It had several features that were not available in the previous version. Some of them include:

Seamless Simulation with Diverse Sensor Portfolio

The application allowed the user to create versatile 3D simulations in real time using the sensor and the position of the magnet. These sensors were directly imported from the customer’s database for a comprehensive replication.

Enhanced Functionality of the Application

The tool was designed to mimic the customer’s product page, showcasing the sensors and devices. The tool encompassed additional fictionalities like parametric sweeps, design comparisons, the ability to import and export designs, and export reports as .pdf or .csv files.

Algorithm Migration

This current application was built on the original algorithm with abstractions around it. This enabled us to use the same algorithm while empowering us to customize the inputs, add new inputs, and process the results efficiently.

Optimized PDF Downloads and Report Generation

PDFs containing larger data with lots of tables and images, often spanning thousands of pages, were optimized and downloaded in less time, thereby providing invaluable insights.

Ability to Handle Complex Simulations

The current tool supports simulations and sweeps for large design files containing thousands of data points within every plot and graph with better efficiency and precision.

The new application was a more sophisticated front-end solution in a better-structured format for better scalability and performance.
